About the project

history

The buildings in the area are part of Kaunas Fortress, they were built in 1886-1896. for the needs of the tsarist army. There were 28 artillery brigades here, and the buildings housed stables, carriages, warehouses, and an intendature warehouse. More than 100 horses could be kept in brick stables in total. There was also a laundry room in the area. It is believed that the buildings of one-story, two-story stables were built with masonry pillars, filling the gaps with logs. During the interwar period, the barracks went to the Lithuanian army. The purpose of the territory remained even in the Soviet era. The barracks buildings are built using red bricks, hewn stone foundations. They are richly decorated, gabled, with wooden (larch) ceilings and a roof structure, covered with tin. Brick stairs are vaulted, stairs are wooden. These architectural elements are also being restored in the buildings of the restored quarter.
