About the project

The north of Ghent is undergoing a true metamorphosis. The Nieuwe Dokken, on the east side of the Handelsdok, is the first of a series of new projects. About 400 new homes will be built for Ghent residents of all ages.

De Nieuwe Dokken is located on Schipperskaai and the entire south-west facade overlooks the water. Residents enjoy relaxing walks in the afternoon sun or in the evening at sunset.

Despite its ideal location, the neighborhood is very quiet. It will be wonderful to stay around the docks. The largest part of the quay will be designed as a pedestrian promenade for walkers and cyclists.

Recreational possibilities

There is plenty to experience along the water. There will be local traders, a brasserie, a sandwich shop, offices ... Young and old can relax thanks to wide pedestrian promenades, green neighborhood parks and new toys. Those who prefer shopping in the historic city center can easily cross the docks via the handy bicycle and pedestrian bridges.

The 'New' in De Nieuwe Dokken does not simply refer to the fact that we are building a brand new neighborhood at the Handelsdok in Ghent. It also points to how we are redefining the concept of 'ambitious construction project'. We dare to look beyond tomorrow and want to actively think about the sustainable neighborhood of the future.
