Skanska was founded in 1887 as Aktiebolaget Skånska Cementgjuteriet, dealing in the production of concrete elements. Our business profile quickly changed to construction, and after 10 years we received our first foreign order. In the following years, already in the 20th century, we played a significant role in the construction of Swedish infrastructure: roads, production plants, offices and housing estates.
In the mid-1950s, Skånska Cementgjuteriet started operating in foreign markets. In the 90s of the last century, Skanska began a period of expansion. In just a few years, we have doubled our revenues. It was the result of both organic growth and a series of successful acquisitions, thanks to which Skanska has become a global company.
Skanska has been listed on the Stockholm stock exchange since 1965. In 1984 'Skanska' became the official name of our company.
